How to Escape the Yeti in SkiFree (Yes, It's Possible)

For years it was playground legend. Somebody's cousin had escaped the Yeti. Somebody's older brother had skied past him forever. Nobody had actually seen it.

Here's the truth: you can get away from him. You just need to know one key.

The trick: press F

SkiFree has a hidden fast mode. Press F and your skier tucks down and goes much quicker than normal. The Yeti is faster than your normal speed, but slower than fast mode.

So when he appears, press F, point straight downhill and go.

Why most people still got eaten

Even with fast mode, there's a catch. If you hit anything — a tree, a rock, a stump — you crash and stop. And the Yeti doesn't stop.

So the real challenge isn't speed. It's nerve. You're going faster than you've ever gone, the slope is full of obstacles, and something is chasing you. Most of us panicked, clipped a tree and watched the end come.

Step by step

• Before 2,000 m: warm up. Get used to steering at speed.
• As he appears: press F immediately. Don't wait to see how close he is.
• Stay pointed downhill: sideways angles slow you down. Small taps only.
• Look ahead, not at him: your eyes should be on the next tree, not the monster.
• Avoid jumps if you can: air time can land you in trouble.

Does he give up?

He may drop off the screen, but SkiFree never truly lets you win. Keep skiing and he can come back. That's part of the joke. The mountain goes on forever, and so does he.

Try it here

Our SkiFree works the same way: the Yeti arrives at 2,000 metres, he's faster than your normal speed, and F is your only hope.
